Ingredients in Air Fryer Fried Okra

Okra.

Tips on buying fresh okra.

You can find okra in the produce section of your local supermarket. Search for okra under 3 inches long and look for plump, firm green pods.

How to store.

Wrap fresh okra loosely in plastic and store in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for 2-3 days.

Best season for okra.

Okra tends to be available year round in the south and during the summer months in the north. Okra’s peak season is from June through September.

Extra Light Olive Oil.

While I purchase olive oil at my local supermarket, many of my clients purchase at specialty olive oil stores. Make sure to use extra light olive oil since the flavor is mild.

Redmond Real Salt.

I have been very successful in finding Redmond Real Salt at my local supermarket.

How to Make Okra in the Air Fryer

Wash and pat dry okra. Place okra in a medium bowl.

Drizzle olive oil over okra and toss with tongs.

Sprinkle Redmond Real Salt and toss.

Pour okra mixture into the air fryer basket.

Air fryer okra at 390 degrees for 12-14 minutes making sure to ‘shake’ the basket at 6 minutes.

Serve.

How to Store Leftovers?

Since this recipe makes an amount for a supper meal (we are not cooking in bulk), store any leftovers in a small, plastic container in the refrigerator.

Can you Freeze Okra?

While large batches of cooked okra can be frozen in sealed freezer bags, we will not need to freeze this recipe (because it is so good!).

How Long Does it Take to Reheat Leftovers?

Air fry leftovers for 3-5 minutes at 390 degrees.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Fried Okra?

Combine this perfect vegetable side dish with any protein (chicken, pork, sirloin) or my Air Fryer Cajun Chicken Tender Recipe.

FAQ.

Is Okra Keto?

Yes. 1 cup of okra contains 33 calories, 7 grams of carbs, and 3.2 grams of dietary fiber. My serving suggestion of okra is ½ cup yielding 3.5 grams of carbs.

What are the Net Carbs in Okra?

Net carbs are defined as total carbs – dietary fiber. With 1 cup of okra yielding 7 grams of carbs and 3.2 grams of dietary fiber, the net carbs would be 3.8 grams.

Net carbs in okra: 7 grams carbs – 3.2 grams of dietary fiber = 3.8 grams of net carbs.

What are the Carbs in Fried Okra?

A general search for carbs in fried okra is 22.8 grams. My air fryer fried okra is an amazing low carb dish that will replace any fried okra dish.

Is Okra Anti-Inflammatory?

Yes. Okra has plenty of health benefits including:

Lowers blood clots. Okra contains polyphenols. Polyphenols lowers risk of blood clots.

Brain health. Polyphenols have also been found to improve brain health by protecting it from inflammation.

Lowering cholesterol. Okra contains mucilage which binds to cholesterol during digestion. This causes it to be excreted (hello poop!) instead of absorbed in the body.

How to Cook Okra Without Slime?

Okra becomes slimy when cooked for a long time making it perfect in stews, soups, and gumbos. Make sure when cooking okra in the air fryer to pay attention to the cook time. DO NOT OVERCOOK. In addition, do not wash okra until ready to cook in the air fryer or in other roasted okra recipes.

Can you use Breading on Okra?

You absolutely can! To keep the recipe a low carb recipe, I would encourage using a breading of almond flour, egg, and grated parmesan cheese. An example of this breading is in my Air Fryer Onion Rings video.

Can you Substitute Other Spices?

Of course! I love Redmond Real Salt since it is a mineral salt, but I tell all my clients and friends to use the seasoning(s) of your choice.

Serving Suggestions
